I think it's the end of our 04 bandies blog. ):
We'll still be bandies, but we won't be the 04 bandies that inhabited this blog for a year and a few months.
I'll just keep the blog up for the sake of memories, and let it fossilise. LOL no.

Unless we miraculously all end up in the same classes again, but then we'll see more bandies in that class, most likely?

Hey people!

It's the start of Term 4 tomorrow. Full drive for EOY! So everyone jia you for your exams okay? And don't forget that oral is coming real soon ( on the 24th).

But of course, for band, do make full use of the time during band prac and put on your best. I know it's pretty hard after all those studying in the morning, but just try your best! =) Also do practice your basics as well as the song "and the antelope plays". I think Mr Patrick Wong has made you guys write down the counting thing right? That is, the 1ena thingy. If not, I suppose it's pretty helpful for you guys to write it down on your score if your rhythm is very complicated. Don't forget to number your bars too! For convenience sake during practice/sectionals time =)

I happen to come across this website on band tips and I feel that it's pretty useful, so there's no harm just reading it =)

I feel kinda sad, yknow. We set up this blog for band related stuff but in the end it just died because no one was active enough to blog that often.

But yeah, just saying you guys better memorise your chromatic scales starting on Bb, C, D, Eb, F, if you haven't already.
And pleaseeeee buck up on your playing/marching. Who knows if you'll ever be tested.... xP

Don't give up on band yet (know you guys wouldn't dare anyway)! Basics are important as hell, so mhm. Just bear with it. >_>

As you have heard what the leaders have said during the practice, there are A LOT of things that we're lacking at/in. I suppose we're all trying our best, or is it? Don't just stop when you think you can't take it anymore. Reach your limit! Go even further than that! The universe's the limit here (who knows what's after the universe)!

Have a sense of urgency, people. AND SHOUT YOUR TIMING. I can't be a judge on that, since people do have limits on how loud they can shout, but seriously, if you can talk so much during breaks and what not, why aren't you able to shout your timing? Perhaps it's just plain laziness, or maybe you have this horrible sore, but at least try D: One of this moments would be during PT. Would it kill for you to shout your timing so we could all be in sync? It wouldn't, okay. I'm not saying you have to shout every single eighth or thousand, but at least shout one eighth/thousand so we know how much we've counted already. The reason why we're always out of sync in terms of timing is because not everyone shouts. One can't possibly hear the other end shouting (unless of course, the end isn't that far to begin with, or the person can shout REALLY loud).

I'm not being mean or anything, but do reflect on your actions |: After all, this is a military band. We don't slack around. Ever forceful, ever graceful (I don't know how that applies in this paragraph o.o). If you think military band is all fun and games, then you've chose the wrong CCA to be a part of. Toughen up. This is just the beginning. Work hard, and you would be rewarded (: I'm not saying you have to have a stick stuck up your ass and be uptight, but know when you're supposed to be serious, and when you can joke around. Listen to your seniors no matter how much you hate them. Most of them are only trying to help.

Then again, if you see someone else not acting right in band, take initiative and tell them. If you don't want to seem like a bitch or what, just hint at that nicely. If they take offense, then their lost. It's not your fault that you want to help them and they don't accept.

I'm sure we're capable of better stuff.

If you think I'm being a bitch or what, go ahead and voice out.

Remember, 18nov, Wednesday. Must must must come okays? I heard from SL that we'll be seeing the SYF formations or something. Forgot -.- But yeah, attendance is crucial. So don't pon, okay? But we very guai one, I doubt you guys will pon band. Haha.

Okay, next. 19-21 is our band camp, which I don't know if it's compulsory. But yeah. Just take note. Maybe you guys can ask your SL =)

Erm, yeah, just a random post to keep this blog alive =)

As you know, the F&F concert is coming up. So, just like, make sure you are ready for it. Practice your parts well. I'm not really sure about the attire yet, but when my SL inform me I will post it here.

And just for your info, we have to like, polish our shoes. It would be great if you could like start polishing everyday starting from today. It definitely will SHINE. And I also know that you guys wanna look good on your own concert right? Yeah, so it's STRONGLY advisable to polish your shoes =)

Yeah. So people, work hard just for these few days for the concert. As you know, this is the very 1st concert our band has ever put up(as in something random that I can't remember), yeah, so don't embarrass the band! =)

As you know right, we will be starting the preparation very soon, and as what Mr Daniel has said, it is going to be TOUGH. So, yeah. Be prepared. Persevere on even if you find it tough, okay? Don't give up! We can get through this together! OUR HARD WORK WILL DEFINITELY PAY OFF WHEN WE MANAGE TO WRAP THE OTHERS IN A CIRCLE AND SEND THEM TO OUTER SPACE!

Hey people, today's oral, hope that you guys did well =)

So! Please be reminded that there will be band tomorrow, and so please be ready with your instruments already set by 7.45am? Yeah, I think so. The earlier the better, okay?

Oh yeah, due to exams, CCAs will be CANCELED. *cries* And so, please borrow your instruments home okays? Cause if you don't,

You'll be missing your instrument and you'll be desperate to borrow instruments from your friends. E.g me. Haha, not really. But partly. =)
You might lag behind too much, cause it's gonna be a LONG LONG break
The concert's on 31 OCTOBER. Very soon, and we only have about 5 sessions of band practice. You will have to practice on your own.

Even though it was really tiring and tough, at least all of us tahan till the end, right?

Please, by the way, be very careful with your instruments. You don't want to drop it/bang it/smash it/kick it/hit it/etc, because then you'll most likely owe 50 eighths, minimum. I'm not really sure with the punishment system. When someone accidentally moved my stand away, it hit my tuba, and she said owed (me? O.O) 50 eighths.
Even such a small thing, and you'll need to be punished. SO BE CAREFUL! But don't be kiasi until you move like a tortoise ._.

no it is not sweet.
it is very tiring...
marching not so, but holding up the clarinet was like, i felt like dying.

and marching is FUN!!! palying is even FUN!!! holding the clarinet is NOT FUN!!! actually okay okay la...but at the end, it is worth it lor...later i got more muscles on my arm...LOL!!!

Hey Band folks!

So, who enjoyed today's (Saturday) Band practice? =) Jia You for your drills oh. Haha.

Anyway, like what Daniel said, he will update the band notice board frequently, so I'm asking for your opinion, is like have 2 options.

Have one person as a Band Notice Board IC and he/she will have to visit it frequently and after that inform us about the recent news.
Everyone individually go and update yourself. Haha =)

Let's make a wise choice shall we? Mwahahahaha.

Oh yeah, Daniel mentioned that the next time we do drills, it's fine to use sunblock or whatever cute stuff, so yeah. =) If you don't wanna be a raccoon, you MAY use the sunblock. Haha, anyway, let's work hard together yeah?

Well, apparently, since I'm bored too, I realised I forgot to add a thing (or two) about the last session.

Daniel also said that Year Ones would not only be playing Themes For Harry Potter (for the F&F), but would join the main band in a few songs or so. :D Isn't that lovely? I want to play those fawesome songs, provided that I can actually play them. I want Pirates of the Caribbean O: That song is nice please!

Updating for the sake of those that were absent (i.e. Carmen :D ) and those that are forgetful. Only those major stuff I'll update.

So firstly, we went through some administrative matters. Apparently we'll have a committee for every single event, and everyone should be in at least one committee throughout their whole band experience. FTW! End of Year camp and and EOY trip to KL for the KLWMBC (KL World Marching Band Contest). I think the KLWMBC is like, limited spaces or something, but Daniel wants most of us to come. :D

Kay, minor matters, skip skip skip.

Did some drills (: DO NOT STAND LIKE A FLAMINGO OHKAY! BALANCE ON BOTH FEET! Imagine the hardship I have to face when I can't balance my tuba on one leg. Bleah. Anyhoo, DO REMEMBER TO BALANCE IT OUT. And uh, practice on Chorales 1 & 2 (know it by heart). Received our band files! So, please make sure you have the 5 (or was it 6) compulsory sheets;

Fingering/position chart (clarinets with the better one?)
Chorales 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12
Basic Band Training
Scales (all twelve)
12 Intervals

I think that's all (TY Jascelyn for reminding me some). And wtf, I only have Chorale 1 & 2, that's it. Shows how inefficient my senior is ._.

The schedule for band stuff is on the band board, I think Daniel's blog might have it. There's a concert on 5th September (at IMM?) and our F&F Festival (Family and friends, nawt F&N or Fun and Food or First and Foremost) is on 24th October. Blame some random suggestions about what F&F is when mr Firdauz seats behind you. :D

Whoaaaa. The blog has turned into a debate zone of some sort? O.o So random. Anyway, you shouldn't compare the instruments, 'cos different instruments are built to create different sounds, and each requires a different skill. And if you compare, you'll be like, this and that is not fair. So you should just learn to love your own instruments (basically I'm telling you to deal with it, since it is your instrument, and you're mostly likely going to be stuck with it for life. Well, at least for your Secondary Education first.).

:/ I think I should add a comment portion to the posts, so you can comment about the post yourself and there won't exactly be a need to keep posting about the same topic O.o

Hahaz, Wei Huan, I think your instrument really got a lot of disadvantages worh. Want come join flute? =) Michelle confirm very happy one. Hahaz.

Omg. What you point out on the flute is all positive one! =) Yeah, thank you thank you. Hahaz, show that I enter flute section is a good choice.

Oh ya, just for fun oh, last time right, my dad told me that have a few kinds of flute( I think is the di zi ah) need to put the paper one. Yeah. Hahaz. But I never really heard of western concert flute using the paper lah.

Heh. Actually what I think is that maybe the flute is one of the easiet instruments to play except that the embouchure takes time to build. I know I very lame, but actually I searched different kinds of websites with polls that says which instruments might be the easiet/ hardest. But, actually due to the fact that everyone is different and suited differently for different instruments, ALL polls will be inaccurate.

Yeah. I'm actually proud of something =) But not really, actually. I think the only thing Michelle and I complained about is the hands lorhs. Everyone knows this. Hahaz. Then I haven't reallly complained about it any more =) YAY! Oh wait, is there something else we complained? -.- Erm, can't really remember. Hahaz, ask Michelle.

Hmm, Wei Huan, since you actually personally think that if you know what's your instrument's advantages you will play better, I should think that maybe you should actually find something/ just make up something if you really can't find any advantages -.-

Different people have different ways of trying to improve their skills. As for me, I feel that practice makes perfect. Also, if you actually know what your instrument's weaknesses lies at, you work on it so as to make it a little bit better. The best is to know your OWN weakness, so you can improve on them. =)

So, I would ask you people to actually erm, see what's your own best way to actually improve your skills =) JIA YOUSXZ!

Oh yeah. So sad, band cancelled again. =( Concert will be postponed to October, I think. So sad! =( *Cries* Okkay, enough drama. Hahaz, sorry.

i think i dont really realise my instrument's advantage compared to the others.
REALLY, cardoor
but i believe, from the ppl from other sections will be wondering, "their instrument so easy to play, ours leh?!"
i think this applies to all the instruments
be it by their
1) fingerings
2) weight
3) embouchure painfulness/tiredness/numbness
4) holding posture
5) reed/reedless
6) fragile or not
7) time taken for setting up instrument
8) length
9) how many hands/fingers it takes to hold it
10) the case size?
LOL, i know this may be irrelavant
but sometimes, if you compare, you will realise there is REALLY A BIG DIFFERENCE or a tiny difference. (just pick any)

fingerings, for clarinet, is all 9 fingers just for B, 1 finger is to support (the finger that goes swollen) and when you need to jump from A (1 finger) to B (9 fingers) can, but will have a slight pause.

weight, clarinet heavier than flute, but i think tuba heaviest?

embouchure, i think every wind instrument will suffer from embouchure painfulness/tiredness/numbness, but flute wont right? you all only need to have the correct shape of your lips right? if i am wrong please correct me.

holding posture, you know? i looked at the sexy ppl of their posture at sediya position, like, wa! very tough leh, i think i would die if i were them, lol

reed/reedless, instruments without reeds dun have to suffer the fate of chaging reeds when you break them, which i do often. LOL

fragile or not, every instrument is fragile i think. just that i think clarinet most fragile. that time mr. daniel gave an exmaple "as fragile as the clarinet" PLEASE DUN THINK THAT YOUR INSRUMENT IS NOT FRAGILE, they are, in some way. take care of them

time taken for setting up the instrument, i saw the flute setting up, quite easy leh. it's straight ma, clarinet also straight, but we have the cork thing, which wears of after a period of time, then if you dun put paper there, parts without proper cork or paper will drop out and the clarinet will become segmented again. so you need time, so far, i think i have never seen flutes putting paper.

length, flute i think longer than clarinet. but this is disadvantage, when you hold it, you hand muscles is like strained and stretched dunno until how la. but trombone, VERY LONG WHEN PLAYING LEH

how many hands/fingers it takes to hold it, i think flute, clarinet, trumpet, horns easiest? tuba, trombone, baritone, saxophone not so easy leh.

the case size, most of the time, this is the most number of ppl complain de. FLUTE CASE CAN PUT IN BAG LEH! clarinet, like tool box, trombone like super big tool box, saxophone, erm, almost the same as trombone? horns not sure, trumpets, dunno why their instrument so small, but case actually bigger than clarinet one, baritone, big big one, TUBA, SUPER DUPER BIG ARH! i saw vivien dragging it out once. looks so funny (no offence) imagine, if every case can fit into your bag, then vivien's bag must be ultraaaaa BIGGGGG.

realised the difference? maybe you do not think so, and you think this is crap, then nvm.
it is just, a topic on advantages and disadvantages of instruments, not very impt, yet, quite impt.
cause, if you realise how good your instrument is, you will be like, "oh, actually my instrument if not so bad after all" and you play better?

Erm, yeah. WARNING: THIS POST IS NOT TO CREATE INTERNAL WAR OR SOMETHING =)))

Yup, just a post to refer back to Wei Huan's post. Hehehehehe, yup, indeed flutes don't need to have red or pinkish lips =) Which, I'm actually happy about. Hahaz, no offense worh 0.0 However, we sometimes also do get our fingers, well, pink or something. Yeah, or maybe only me? Hahaz.

Yup, no doubt flute has the disadvantage of having our arms sore after playing, I'm sure we will actually get use to it. For me, I'm pretty used to it now, so I don't really feel anything. Come to think of it, we have started band practice since February.

Actually, Wei Huan, you did mention that many people don't look at their instrument's advantage, but are you one of them too? Because I actually didn't really see any advantages mentioned about the clarinet in your blog post.

Different instruments have different use, different ways of producing and different methods to play. Clarinets and Saxophones uses reed, which may cause the pinky lips. The brass instruments uses the vibration of their lips to create sounds, on the other hand. Heard from Vivien that it will cause numbness. Hahaz. The flute is one of the reedless instrument, and the notes played will depend on the embouchure(I think). Because from what I see and experience, just a little bit of adjustment and the sound will actually sound different. Our flutes also have some other difficulties that you guys can't really see it. You can only experience it. =)

Actually, we will not experience each other's difficulties in playing the instrument unless you really try it for a while. No instrument in the band is harder than one or another. If Michelle actually remember, we were actually very happy to enter the flute section and was thinking what would happen if we were to play other instruments. We were actually very satisfied(at least me) with our instrument.

Anyway, Wei Huan, it's actually very good to point this out. Since now we know what are our instrument's strengths and weaknesses, it's our job to find a practical way on how to try to solve or reduce our difficulty level in handling our instruments. Yeah, sorry, last part I don't really know how to express. =)

P/S I still can't do the pencil exercise -.- Can't hold the pencil there. Eurgh.

HEY 04 bandies
the first time i heard the word bandies (cause pronounce le like same same ma) i tot is "bandits"

then i was like, "huh? 04 bandits?"
then after that i know le...
YAY, no band.
i like band la, just that, you know after blowing my thumb will sometimes go swollen.
then my lips like, red. as in, not totally red la, is upper lip, pink, bottom lip, reddish pink la.
FLUTES GOOD LA, no pink and reddish pink lips.
but their hands, wow, need raise until so high.
that time i tried holding it, that i tot i hold like Cardoor already, then she like pushed my right hand up, i got a shock, need so high.

michelle got say before, every instrument got advantage and disadvantage if you compare.
if you never compare, you never know how fortunate you are, and you can only think of your instrument's disadvantage.
for example, flute, you may think that your hands very suan, but if you compare with other instruments you MAY realise that you are lucky that after playing for a long period of time, your lips is not as red and painful as the others.
RIGHT?

Yeah, sad to say that there will be no band practice for this week all thanks to the H1N1 virus spreading around. =( All thanks to you, flu! *pouts*

Okkay, anyway, I just don't understand. They allowed us to start school as per normal, and so, if we were to catch the flu in school we will get it during curriculum time already. And they suspended CCAs just because they want to prevent us from the freaky flu? 0.o I find it seriously ironic.

But, anyway, you guys have to continue practising your instruments at home to prepare for the concert, regardless of loudness, sianness and poof! -.-

Just in case any of you want to buy it on your own, I'll just give you some directions, but I only know how to get there from CCK bus interchange.

You will have to take bus 67 and then you will arrive at the bus stop after the one opposite courts. Okkay? Then, go to Beauty World to get your marching shoes. Erm, there's one minor problem, and that is there's a Beauty World Centre and another Beauty World Plaza. I'm not sure which one to go, my apologies =)
